Hiatus
Hey, all.
As you may have noticed, I’m taking a brief hiatus from this blog until I can figure out exactly what I want to do with it. In the meantime, if you’d like to check out my new project (blog) please let me know, and I’ll fill you in. You really should!
xoxo – gossip girl. Ok, that was just for fun.

Vote!
Please vote tomorrow. Even if you’ve just stumbled on this blog by random Googling (as I know most have), I figure another reminder from me couldn’t hurt, and maybe – just maybe – will help. I could tell you all the reasons to vote and probably sicken you with a list of things you’ve already heard. But if you don’t vote tomorrow you are turning your back on your rights – really, your privilege. There are places in the world where people do not have the right to vote. And if that were you, you know you would want it. Please don’t waste that right. Vote for yourself and know that your voice makes a difference.

Poll option??
I’ve been away from this blog for far too long now (going over a week – sorry guys!) and I come back and see there is a poll option?? Whatever can I poll you about? I’ll have to think of something good (read: laughable and relatively pointless) to entertain all.
In the meantime, I’d like to add a brief gripe about a) professors who won’t email you back, b) lack of consideration for seniors concerning basketball tickets and trips to Italy, and c) articles that either don’t get printed with no warning or with tons of edits (I know, I should hardly be griping about that last one).
GRIPE!
Alright, I’m done. I think I’ll go fact-check a newsletter or World Series bar crawl blog post…
How are you all doing?

It’s 12:30 in the morning and I have cooked and am about to ice cupcakes. Funfetti at that.
I’m feeling rather ridiculous.
Just thought you’d like to know.
Getting up for work on what for the past three years has been the most glorified week off of the year is quite unsettling. It’s unfortunate I cannot put my foot down about such things, sigh. Missing Jersey.

Keepin’ it underground
For those of you who do not read this as an anonymous blog (you’ve figured me out! Or rather, I suppose, I have let you), you have may have gotten wind of a new, lighter blog I’ve started to keep – one that I’m posting un-anonymously. I must say, I was a little torn at this new prospect, unsure of how I should go about it. I knew I wanted to start a blog that people would read and know that it was me, but I knew I could never post the details of my life that I do here (and even here it is sometimes self-censored and guarded), and frankly I knew I would miss that.
I like my little underground blog. I like to think that it is this little gem only a few people know about (or, okay less than a gem, but at least kinda entertaining at times). Plus, I think I’m cool for using WordPress – even though I haven’t quite figured it out.
Basically, I am just telling you to never fear, devoted readers/people who google Dunkin Donuts and Moleskine notebooks a lot. I have planned for this blog to live on. And perhaps one day I can have the confidence to make it more public. But right now, that just seems premature. But please, keep linking me and commenting as often as you’d like – I always love feedback. Or, you know, if you’d like to offer me a job, that would be great too.
And if you happen to stumble across a cute blog that sounds a little like me, be kind and stay awhile. It just might be.

Stuck in a Blog Rut
I wish I knew how to do all that fancy stuff with blogging. I don’t have idea what CSS or HTML is even trying to articulate, and then when I read a “how-to” article or post or whatever, I can’t even understand that. It makes my brain frusterated. My brain doesn’t like that.
I just want to make my blog pretty. And tech-y. And be geek-smart about online degisn. Come on, that’s not too much to ask!

Business Classless
I just looked up how much it would cost to for an overnight business-class flight from the US to Asia. Holy CRAP, that is way more money than I would ever spend on what I assume must be a hard mattress and large-size bag of pretzels. Hell, BoltBus has free wireless and outlets, and only charges on average like 20 bucks. What else does one need? Bring food and a pillow and its basically the same for thousands upon thousands less. Even if had as much money as Steve freakin’ Jobs, I don’t think I could justify a business class flight.
But I wouldn’t turn it down, I suppose. :-p

Although I go to school in a Philly suburb, I’ve never gotten into the city as much as I would like. I’m a travler and doer at heart, but often far too lazy or exhausted from life obligations to see everything I would like. Maybe one day perpetual-caffinated me will kick in and life will be better, but alas, until then, I’m afriad I am often more inclined to stay put. Up until recently have not really strived to know Philly well at all, but now, as a Philly intern, I am somewhat (willingly) forced to.
And let me tell you, all is not as it as back home, but much is actually pleasantly surprising. Meaning, 1) Philly is not New York. To be honest I cannot put my finger on it, but the overall reaction I have during my morning and afternoon commute is that there is so much less a sense of … urgency. In New York everything is fast, everything is bold, everything is important. Not that Philadelphia is without its importance, but you can’t help but feel that everything is much more down to earth,
much more local. Consequently, 2) Philly has a really cool local feel for trendy restaurants, shops, and other events. At my job I do a lot of event listings for local boutiques, cafes, festivals, and the like, and I’ve totally been missing some awesome Philly swag this whole time! Like the fact that Capogiro (which I have frequented – closest thing to Italy I’ve found) occasionally has tomato and basil gelato. Or that Giadia De Laurentiis is going to be at the King of Prussia mall this week. Or that I could have gotten Alanis Morisette tickets for super cheap last minute? (I’m not really that much of an angry chick, but who doesn’t live music so cheap it feels like you’re pirating it?) I must say, as much as I love love love New York and all its truly justfiable glory, Philly has impressed me these past couple weeks. It feels like an insider secret nobody talks about – obviously, because quite frankly I don’t know if anyone else on the East coast gives much ado about Ben Franklin and his hometown. Justified? Well that’s up to you.
I won’t give up on my Big Apple quite so easy though…ah New York. And go Mets.

Check those facts, yo
So, I try not to be very political in public. One because I dont think I’m educated enough on the subject to make large claims that I put out there for all to see, and two because I don’t need unnecessary attention and/or animosity coming my way. Mixing sex – or even friends – and politics really can be an unwanted mess.
However I do believe I’m justified in saying that the current election is one of the most important of our time. I know, that’s cliched and always said, but in this case, I really do think that this is true. And also, I think that for such an important election its even more important to know the facts – which are, as I and many have noticed, getting a little cloudy.
So check out Factcheck.org – its a nonpartisan website that sets the record straight on a lot of what the candidates are saying … so you can make an informed choice.
And then when you think you can make that choice, make sure you’re actually gonna do it. Vote. Really. I see no reason not to and you need to make sure you’re registered by October 6th. Barack Obama’s website actually has a really easy tool to help you register, check whether or not you are registered, and can help students know how to register in the state in which they go to school (also important, I’d say!). And that isn’t biased of me – the tool offers the option to register for either party or none at all. And speaking of which, just because you’re registered to a certain party doesn’t mean you have to vote that way in the general election.
Okay I’m done, there’s my spiel. Go vote and know what you’re voting for. I just think that’s important to get out there.

He knows he has to
If I get up now, he’ll leave. He’ll know that I know the inevitable, what my eyes will say no matter how much I restrain them. He’ll know to concede to make it easier on us. He’ll know I won’t let go if he doesn’t first. And he knows, we know, he has to.
If I open my eyes, the day will begin. The day will begin and taunt us with reality once again. It will steal our happiness, make cold our bed, and consume us only with what we wish wasn’t happening. I’ll see the sun and it will not bring another day together, just another day knowing we’ll soon be apart.
If move an inch, he’ll wake up and know it, too. His silent sleep will be shattered and both of hearts will begin to ache. And we’ll pretend it isn’t happening.
If my feet touch the floor, my eyes will swell. My body will know its time to move on and it will be fragile and broken.
If I hold him now, we’ll pretend that it is comfort. I will feel the pounding in his chest only escalate the truth. I’ll scream for him and trick my brain for one moment – rush of joy.
If I cry now, he’ll only hurt too. But I’ll cry and cry and cry because it hurts more not to. Because I need him to know.
If I move now, he’ll leave. He’ll leave and know he has to. For us.
